COMPUTERS

The original setup circa 2001...
No. 3 Computer tests the most recent hardware.

The watercooled No. 3 computer. Right is the radiator and fan unit.

Whole system as of March 2003.
Gold 550w power supplies added with 4 colour LED fans and neon floppy cables.
All three computers run into a KVM switch which enables all computers and a laptop to be run by a 24" Samsung Syncmaster 240T LCD monitor and radio keyboard and mouse set.
JAN 2004 UPDATE .....
New configuration now has computer 1 as a 1800mhz P4 with 1 Gb RAM and a 4 disk RAID array of 60 Gb hard disks. Computer 2 has a 3 Ghz P4 running 2 Gb RAM and 2 160 Gb serial ATA hard disks and computer 3 is the same as computer 1 but is watercooled, overclocked and has a 1.8 Ghz P4 which runs games on a RAM hyperdrive. Additionally, all hard disks now have dual fans which makes the hard disks all look similar.

... as of January 2004.
DECEMBER 2004 PURCHASES .....
Watercooling kits for the other 2 computers, temp monitoring for all computers via Aerocool Gatewatch units, LED fans for the case cooling intakes, gold grilles for the radiator fans, chrome grilles and neons for the power supplies, neon water additive sensitive to UV light and water flow indicators for the pipework. A 250 Gb hard disk added which is USB or Firewire.
JANUARY 2005 UPDATE .....
Watercooling radiator fitted with neons, LED fans and gold grille for No. 1 computer, 3 x Aerocool Gatewatches installed, 3 x 120mm LED case fans installed.
MARCH 2005 UPDATE .....
I made a decision about colours and have realised that blue seems to be the only colour for case mods that covers everything from fans to wire ties ! So all three computers will be lit by blue. The case will remain silver and black where possible.
KIT ADDED 2005 .....
3 new power supplies being black and silver with seperate wattage meters and blue lit 120mm fans. 3 "Touch One" PC on switches in chrome, all USB cables replaced with silver braided, blue LED lit cables.
MORE IDEAS .....
I thought of having the water from the cooling system run down one of these garden waterfalls before being pumped back into the system.
Someone suggested the case should double as a mouse cage with the mice using glass tubes to get from one section to another ! He may have been joking but I have been known to accept these jokes as a challenge. Before I start does anybody know what effect the emissions from a computer have on mice ?
NOVEMBER 2006 UPDATE .....
A monster computer is on the horizon and the parts have now landed at our new premises.
Rough spec is a 2 Terrabyte array of 4 X 500 Gb hard disks, 4 meg of RAM and the biggest Intel Duo processor. Our new play area is 10 times the size of the old one and this is leading to new ideas ! I may even have to give up the frame on the wall configuration although I do not want to. If I can still use it I certainly will. The building has been put on hold whilst we finish off the new area.
