Our whole history is dotted with explosions and effects of various kinds from when we were children trying to attract the neighbours attention with loud booming explosions to rocketry. Pinching Sodium Clorate from the school maintenance huts, opening blank bullets from the CCF etc. We have planned whole battle simulations, have certificates in firework displays to supervisor level, simulated the firing of all types of anti-tank weapons and the like, any rocketry simulations for film and T.V. and the list goes on.
